Succeed slowly at network marketing

by moderator on Sun 05/28/2006 06:39 AM

As with any business, network marketing is either a love it orleave it affair. Much of the flack comes from misinformation oran unfortunate experience with a shady distributor. However, thefact of the matter is that network marketing when done with theright company can offer people a great business opportunity.

The common perception is that the hierarchical structure ofnetwork marketing looks like a pyramid scheme. And while pyramidschemes are illegal. To equate this to network marketing issimply not fair. The way the company is structured doesnítdecide the organizationís legality. If at all the federalgovernment would be like a pyramid.

The right kind of network marketing is legal since it entailsmarketing a product and the volume of products sold is whatdetermines just how much amount of money the company (andconsequently the distributor) makes.

In order to succeed in the network marketing business, you needto know what youíre getting into and have an idea of how muchwork it will entail to meet your goals. It may take a while, butstarting slowly but surely will translate a much higher successrate than just plunging head first without prior thoughtwhatsoever.

1.First you need to research on the company thatís recruitingyou or you plan on joining. Since more than 90% of networkmarketing companies fail within a span of 2 years, it is onlysmart to avoid untested companies. Donít worry, there are plentystill to choose from since about 1 in 1000 network marketingcompanies are still standing after more than 5 years.

So in looking at a prospective network to join, youíre betteroff going with one that has a proven track record. Donít getswayed with the pitch new companies throw at you saying as oneof the first people in the network, youíll achieve yourfinancial goals in no time. Itís ok to be slow and steady solong as you know, your network wonít fold up on you at breakneckspeed. Research resources in check out these companies can befound from the FTC (http://www.ftc.gov/) and several otheronline consumer resources.

2. It is important that your sponsor is someone you respect andtrust. This person will be your trainer and coach. Even ifyouíre part of a good organization that offers good products, ifyour sponsor is someone you donít necessarily trust, being ableto succeed may prove difficult. The sponsor is there to takecare of you as you help the company grow. If you feel he isrecruiting you simply to gain numbers for himself, then it maybe wise to think twice about the venture. Besides, as you planon building something long-term with this network, you might aswell work with someone whom you like.

3. Check to see it you are required to secure permits. Althoughmost companies will take care of sales tax and other similarmatters, it is only smart to know for sure to be on the safeside.

4. Upon joining and receiving you kit, you are part of thenetwork and of the business. So as part of the organization, make sure you know your products and can answer any questionsabout them. Best way to do this is to use them. Get to know thefeatures but more importantly, the benefits it brings to theconsumers. The most successful distributors are the ones whoknow everything about their products and are genuinely excitedabout them.

5. Listen to your sponsor and upline. Theyíve been at thisbusiness longer than you have and may know something that youdonít right now. Great thing about network marketing is that theplans for success have already been paved. Although it doesnítmean you canít try out new ways and ideas, but if somethingworks, why not start from that?

6. In starting off any venture, go out with a set of goals youwant to achieve over a specific period of time. This will helppace yourself on how much effort you need to put in and it givesyou a gauge to measure your work against.

7. Start forming you network by making a list of people youknow. Include even those whom you feel you could ever go up to.If the company hosts party-style, youíd likely host an openingthat will introduce your business to people. Other methods topromote your business are through printed collaterals likeflyers and classified ads. Be ready to talk to people about yourbusiness. As you do your rounds, ask for referrals from clientsand friends and if possible, participate in trade shows.

8. Finally, even if you can work from your home, treat thisbusiness as just that - a business. If you go out thinking thisis just some hobby, the attitude will reflect in how you areseen by your clients and your downline. Remember, you arerunning a business backed by a reputable corporation so feelconfident about this and that attitude will take you further.

While some will go for the get-rich-quick way, chances are verygreat that these will explode in their faces at the same pacethat they went for it. Going slow may seem a lot of work butitís the smarter way to go. In time, as you build on yournetwork and look after your downline as well as your clients, the benefits that network marketing brings will come to you withgreater satisfaction.
